4/15/13: GMEF Monthly Meeting, 7:00, Garrison Mill Cafe. The STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) Lab Grand Opening agenda will be revealed. All parents are encouraged to attend.

5/13/13: GMEF Monthly Meeting, 7:00, Garrison Mill Cafe. Funding requests from the school will be presented to the board, as well as teacher and parent survey results will be revealed. These survey results will help shape the 2013-2014 initiatives of GMEF. All parents are encouraged to attend.

4/1/13-4/30/13: Final Annual Appeal to reach our financial goal for the year. We need to raise $15,000 more in order to reach our goal, and ensure that we have funds to pay for an additional full-time teacher for the 2013-2014 school year (a STEM Lab instructor that will work with all classes while they attend the Lab), fund continuing education for our teachers, support technology needs at Garrison Mill, and fund the last few field trips.

Classroom Contest Winners

Congratulations to these six classes who had the highest participation rate in the Annual Fund Drive as of 8/31. They will be the first classes in the school to experience enriched learning in our new School Garden during our “Party in The Garden” on September 27th. Stay tuned for more about current changes in education goals and how our School Garden will achieve these goals.

GMEF Fundraising Status

We are excited to announce that we have collected $55K, with $15K to go! Thank you to the over 40% of GM families who have made a donation to the GMEF Annual Fund to-date. Not enough yet, but a large increase over last year. This puts us in an excellent position to move forward with all of our initiatives including building a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) Lab and hiring a Lab Teacher. How are we going to make our goal now? First, we need more families to make a contribution. Even though the class contest is complete, you can donate any time. Donations can be made online or you can put your completed donation form and payment in the blue GMEF mailbox in the school lobby.

Volunteers needed for the GMEF Garden install June 28th and June 29th

The Foundation needs 10 volunteers for each of two 3 1/2 hours shifts on Thursday, June 28, and Friday, June 29.

Shift one: 9:00 am-12:30 pm

Shift two: 12:30 pm-4:00 pm

We will be clearing a space for a butterfly garden, preparing existing beds and space, installing six raised beds (one for each grade), planting seeds and vegetable plants, and laying mulch. No gardening experience or expertise is needed, we just need volunteers to show up (with wheelbarrows if you have them) and help where needed.

Please email twilhelm99@hotmail.com if you are able to help, and indicate which date(s) and shift(s) you are available for. If you have able-bodied teenagers looking for community service hours, this is a perfect opportunity for them as well. Since the playground is under construction, for safety’s sake, please do not bring children under 12 to the worksite.
